Post Post subject: Correctly Fixing Ball Marks on the Green
A Pet Peeve of mine is to have a putt on a green with non-repaired and incorrectly repaired ball marks which can affect the roll of the ball when putting. Many people don't know how to fix ball marks, assuming they do it at all.

Fixing a ball mark correctly
1. Insert a repair tool vertically into the green next to the ball mark and push the top of the repair tool TOWARD the center of the mark. This brings grass from around the mark into the center of the hole and allows the grass to grow naturally and fill the hole completely very quickly. Tap the mark gently with your shoe or putter to flatten the surface.

Incorrectly fixing a mark
1. Insert a repair tool vertically into the green next to the ball mark and push the top of the repair tool AWAY from the center of the mark and down, which raises the dirt at the bottom of the mark to the surface to fill the hole. While this fills the mark, it will take a MONTH for the grass to fill the center of the mark.

Post Post subject: Leave it as nice or nicer than you found it
I know I'm old fashioned but I believe that you should always leave the golf course in as good a condition or better than you found it so that people playing after you have as good of an experience or better than you had of playing the same golf course.

A good rule is to fix 2 ball marks on every green; your own and one other. Pick up trash and throw it in the garbage. Replace divots or fill them with sand when the course provides it. Rake the traps properly leaving the sand on the side hills instead of dragging it down into the bottom of the trap leaving the side bare. Throw your cigarette and cigar butts in the garbage instead of on the grass. If I want to see cigarette and cigar butts laying all over I can go to a used car lot.

If you enjoy golf as much as I do and the beauty of the surroundings, take pride in the course and help make it stay beautiful.
