Anyone know exactly whats going with the U Groove situation. I was told by a friend that I'll have to get new irons in the future if I want to play in a golf tournment because they won't be allowed anymore? Why??? Mad

The proposed ruling is primarily pointed at "highly skilled players in competitive events", who also happen to use urethane golf balls which give higher spin rates than surlyn covered golf balls when hit from rough. This ruling appears to focus on a minority of people and shouldn't have any affect on the majority of amateur golfers.

The USGA official statement can be found at this link.

Written comments regarding these proposed changes governing grooves are welcomed and should be sent to the USGA, attention Dick Rugge, P.O. Box 708, Far Hills, NJ 07931, Fax 908-234-0138, e-mail: -@usga.org. Written comments received later than Aug. 1, 2007, will not be considered."

If you are not in favor of this change, then please contact them to let them know of your displeasure regarding this proposed change in equipment.

Post Post subject: USGA has nothing better to do?
I think the USGA is going overboard to make golf difficult for the elite. Twisted Evil

Square grooves didn't help anyone at Oakmont this year at the 07 US Open. With V grooves, the winner might have shot +10 or +15 and who wants to watch that? I personally was somewhat bored with the Masters as well as the Open this year because of the course difficulty. It's not fun to watch everyone play conservative and not go for it. I like a course that has plenty of risk vs. reward and someone that shoots a great shot while trying to go for it and is rewarded well is fun to watch. Smile
